Module 5- Back Care and Lifting

This Back Care Module will be presented by PDSB Occupational Therapists. It will provide instruction and training on maintaining safety in back care while lifting and transferring students, both physically and with mechanical lifts, considering equipment and the environment. Participants will have exposure to proper body mechanics required for safe lifts and transfers. Information will be provided on the importance of posture and alignment and the prevention of injuries. This module includes videos and visuals of students and staff demonstrating proper body mechanics and back care.

Module 6: Health & Safety (repeat every 3 years) 

This module, developed jointly by OPSEU Local 2100 and the Health and Safety Office of the Peel District School Board, looks at the Occupational Health and Safety Act and considers employee and employer obligations under the Act including work refusals, accident/incident reporting, communicable diseases, and other workplace hazards.

Module 7: Safety Interventions and Disengagement Skills (CPI) (repeat every 2 years)

This workshop will support staff to identify precipitating factors that may cause students to become anxious or to act out, develop appropriate interventions for each stage on the Verbal Escalation Continuum, explore the Crisis Development Behaviour Model and postvention COPING model, and to learn non-verbal techniques to avoid injury.

EA staff are required to be trained and Blue Carded in CPI.
