Sabrina Lowry

My name is Sabrina Lowry, and I am proudly putting my name forward to be your next Chief Steward of OPSEU Local 2100. For the past four years, I’ve served as a steward supporting our members, standing firm through workplace challenges, and fighting for fairness and respect.

I’ve also had the privilege of serving on two committees: the Wellness Committee and as Co-Chair of the Awards Committee where we worked hard to recognize and uplift excellence within our local.

But I’m not just speaking to you as a steward. I’m speaking as someone who is in the schools every day on the ground, as an Educational Assistant on the Intensive Support team. I know firsthand the emotional, physical, and professional demands of our roles. I see what you see. I feel what you feel. I live the challenges that many of us face daily, the long hours, the heavy conversations, the invisible labor that keeps our schools standing.

One of my proudest accomplishments was during our affiliation with the ERFP, when I helped drive forward the development and recognition of the Level 5 position. That wasn’t just a title, it was a victory. It was proof that when we fight for what’s right, we create lasting, meaningful changes.

And now, I’m stepping up because I believe it’s time for something different.

If elected, I would be honored to become the first visibly racialized member to serve on our local executive. But this isn’t about being the first. It’s about making sure I’m not the last.

It’s about opening the door wider for every member who has ever felt unseen, unheard, or unsure if they belonged in leadership. It’s about showing our membership that leadership can reflect the lived experiences and visual diversity of the very people it represents.

We have a real opportunity right now to build a local executive that looks like our membership, that feels like our classrooms, that understands the weight of this work not from the outside, but from lived, shared experience.

Leadership is not about titles, it’s about trust, truth, and the willingness to stand in the gap for those who aren’t ready to speak yet. I will continue to raise my voice, not just for myself but for all of us. For the ones doing the work, holding it together, and hoping for change.

Let’s make our local stronger. More united. More courageous. More reflective of who we are and who we know we can be.

Your voice matters. Your story matters. Let’s build something bold together!

Thank you
Sabrina
